Hello, Biz Enthusiasts!
Starbucks is sitting on $1.74 billion of customer money and kept $222.4 million of it for good last year, which is a very polite way to run a bank. Disney sold Magic Kingdom to two separate crowds on 38 nights this year, 37 of them sold out, and fitted 18 hours of admission inside a 16-hour operating day. A medium-range tanker costs about $240 million to build in America and $51 million everywhere else, so Hanwha bought the shipyard and then became its own best customer. Moderna cut melanoma relapse risk by 42% and the stock fell 17.6% anyway. Meanwhile a developer pointed an AI coding agent at his parents' television, deleted 25 preinstalled apps, and started a small movement of people walking out on a payment plan nobody told them they had signed. Let's get into it.
Hot Takes 🚀
1. Starbucks Is Holding $1.74 Billion of Your Coffee Money ☕💸 Customers had $1.74 billion sitting on Starbucks Cards and unredeemed Stars as of June 28, 2026, and the slice nobody ever spends stays with Starbucks for good: $222.4 million last year. The holiday version of this story says Starbucks is secretly a bank, except the float barely sits still, with $15.25 billion loaded in fiscal 2025 and $15.20 billion spent. Breakage is worth about 3.4 times what the float saves in interest, so the profitable part is not the holding.

2. American-Built Tankers Cost $240 Million. Elsewhere, $51 Million 🚢💵 A medium-range tanker built under US cabotage rules runs about $240 million against roughly $51 million abroad, a $189 million premium that is nearly twice what Hanwha paid for all of Philly Shipyard in December 2024. The yard cost $100 million. Then Hanwha's own shipping arm placed the yard's largest new commercial order, which is one way to make sure the protected American price lands back in your own pocket.

3. Smart TV Owners Are Using AI to Delete the Ads 📺🧹 A developer got tired of the ads on his parents' Xiaomi set, handed the problem to an AI coding agent, and published the prompt on GitHub as cleanyourtv. A few thousand people ran it on their own televisions within two days, and one of them disabled 25 bloat apps in a single afternoon and swapped a 192 MB stock launcher for an 83 MB one. The ads were never a flaw in the product. They were the rest of the price.

4. Disney Sold Magic Kingdom Twice on 38 Nights 🎃🏰 Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party ran 38 nights at $119 to $229, and 37 of them sold out. Day guests were admitted from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and party guests from 4 p.m. to midnight, which is 18 hours of admission sold inside a 16-hour operating day. The Halloween night ticket also cost $20 more than the most expensive single-day Magic Kingdom ticket on sale for any 2026 date.

5. Moderna Cut Relapse Risk 42% and the Stock Dropped 17.6% 💉📉 Moderna's personalized melanoma vaccine added to Merck's Keytruda cut the risk of recurrence or death by 42%, with 82.2% of combination patients alive and cancer-free at two years against 70.0% on Keytruda alone. The stock still fell 17.6%, from $245.81 to $202.63, roughly $17 billion of market value. The data leaked online two days before its scheduled presentation in Madrid, so the market got to price it without the room.
